Beckley is a city located in Raleigh County, West Virginia (Founded Apr. 4, 1838). As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 17,254. It is the county seat of Raleigh County.
The city was named in honor of John J. Beckley, who was the first Clerk of the House of Representatives and the first Librarian of Congress and was founded by his son General Alfred Beckley.
