Norwich is located in the state of Vermont, United States of America, along the Connecticut River opposite Hanover, New Hampshire. The town is located in Windsor County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,544.
The name of the town was originally spelled "Norwhich", but the additional 'h' was dropped shortly after the town was chartered. The town was named after Norwich, Connecticut, the state from which the first settlers originated. Norwich was the original home of Norwich University, which later moved to Northfield.
Norwich maintains one of the only interstate public school systems, the Dresden School District, which is shared by the towns of Norwich and Hanover, New Hampshire.
