Bastrop is the county seat of Bastrop County, Texas, and is located about thirty miles southeast of Austin, Texas, where the Old San Antonio Road crossed the Colorado River. It was first settled in 1804 and incorporated on December 18, 1837.
As of 2003 the city had a population of 6682, up 25% from the 2000 census figure of 5340; its population has doubled since the early 1970s.
