Junction City is a city located in Lane County, Oregon. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,721. Junction City was originally named by railroad magnate Ben Holladay around 1870, who decided this would be where the rail line on the east side of the Willamette Valley meet the rail line on the west side. However, the westside line was not built according to plan, although Junction City later was where the two main branches of U.S. Highway 99 (which had divided in Portland, Oregon) joined.
