Rootstown Township is one of eighteen civil townships in Portage County, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1802 and celebrated its bicentennial in 2002. The township is often referred to as though it were a municipality; i.e. Rootstown, Ohio. For this reason, Rootstown is also an unincorporated community, similar to Austintown, Ohio. Rootstown is located in the southwestern portion of the county, and borders or touches the following other townships and municipalities:
Rootstown Township is formed from the Connecticut Western Reserve. As of 2000, there were 7,212 people in the township.
