Depew is a village located in Erie County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 16,629. The name is derived from Chauncey M. Depew, the President of the Hudson and Harlem Railroad. The Depew economy in the 19th century was based primarily on railroad related industries.
The Village of Depew was incorporated in 1894. The village extends across the boundary between the towns of Lancaster and Cheektowaga.
