Colfax is a town located in Grant Parish, Louisiana. Both the town and parish were founded in 1869, the parish named for President Ulysses S. Grant and the town for his vice president, Schuyler Colfax.
The town is of historical importance due to the Colfax Massacre of 1873. In this Reconstruction-era violent incident, over 100 black men were killed.
