Milan is a town located in Ripley County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,816.
The town's name is pronounced differently from the English name for the Italian city of the same name: IPA /'ma?l?n/ listen.
Its high school, Milan High School, won the Indiana state basketball championship in 1954. The 1986 movie Hoosiers is loosely based on the story of this team. (The team lost in the semifinals the preceding year.)
