Deerfield is a village located in Lake County, Illinois. A portion of the village is located in Cook County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 18,420. It is one of the predominant suburbs that make up Chicago's North Shore region. The area now known as Deerfield was settled in 1835, first named Cadwell Corners and later changed to Leclair. By 1850, the name was changed to Deerfield as the area became a township, in reference to Deerfield, Massachusetts.
Deerfield is home to the headquarters of Walgreens and Baxter Healthcare, and was at one time the headquarters of The Sara Lee Corporation.
Deerfield High School is one of the top public schools in the state, and their mascot is the Warrior. The school colors are red and gray, although white and black are often used as accent colors.
