Salida is a city located in Chaffee County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 5,504. It is the county seat of Chaffee County.
Locally, the town's name is pronounced "Suh-LYE-duh" although Salida is so named, for being the 'exit' from the Brown Canyon of the Arkansas River. In Spanish, the town's name means 'exit' and would be pronounced "Sah-LEE-dah". Local pronunciation of the name of the community north of Salida, Buena Vista, is "Byoona Vissta", often shortened to "Byoony".
